Today 7.2 Magnitude Strong Earthquake Hits Off Northern Japan Pics. & Video

There was a magnitude 7.2 earthquake today 120 miles off the coast of Japan.A magnitude 7.2 earthquake has hit northern Japan, prompting the country's meteorological agency to issue a tsunami alert for the northeastern coast.It warns that a tsunami of about 20 inches (50 centimeters) will hit the coast around noon Wednesday. Luckily it was far enough away that nothing bad happened, but we still felt a big shimmy! It was seriously around 2 minutes long.
Definitely the biggest earthquake we've felt during our time in Japan so far. There have been a couple of aftershocks, so we've had a motion-filled afternoon.Tokyo and wide areas of eastern Japan Sunday evening, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 7:56 p.m. quake that originated some 340 kilometers under the surface of the sea off the Tokaido area, the agency said. No tsunami warning was issued.

The quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in the center of Tokyo as well as several parts of Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama and Chiba prefectures, according to the agency.
