Massive Dust Storm Hits Phoenix Strongly : Sweeps Through Valley (WATCH LIVE VIDEO)

Incredible video from Phoenix shows a wall of dust moving into that Valley just before sunset on Tuesday. The dust wall - commonly called a Haboob - was 60 miles wide, and covered the city of millions with a thick layer of dust that turned the summer sun black.Massive dust storm enveloped areas of Arizona on Tuesday night, causing low Visibility and delaying flights in and out of the state's largest airport. The violent dust or sandstorm called a haboob typically occurs over desert land and can stretch thousands of feet high, according to the National Weather Service.

It prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to issue a ground stop of about an hour and 15 minutes at Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport. The storm had sustained winds of up to 69 mph and stretched more than 30 miles long at one time, according to a meteorologist for CNN affiliate KNXV-TV.Visibility as low as 50 feet. Muddy rain. Powdery stuff on teeth, in lungs. Blacked-out neighborhoods -- until you got close enough to see that the lights really were on.

Tonight's dust storm was dustier than the typical Arizona haboob, with fine particles just hanging in the air even during lulls in the gusty wind.
