Roger Federer's dreams of a seventh Wimbledon title were shattered by an extraordinary comeback from Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who won an epic quarter-final 3-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-4 today.It was the first time the third seed has lost a grand slam match having been two sets up and it condemned the 16-times major champion to a second Wimbledon quarter-final exit in a row.It was the first time 16-times grand slam champion Federer had lost a match having led by two sets and put a huge question mark over the 29-year-old's chances of matching Pete Sampras's seven Wimbledon singles titles.For 26-year-old Tsonga, it will be his first Wimbledon semi-final spot where he will tackle world number two Novak Djokovic for a place in Sunday's final."It was amazing.I played unbelievable.
It's never easy to come back against Roger. I'm so happy, it's crazy," said Tsonga, whose best Grand Slam performance was runners-up spot at the 2008 Australian Open.The defeat ends Federer's run at a 17th Grand Slam title and 7th Wimbledon championship.The door is now open for Rafael Nadal to make another run at the Wimbledon final, Spaniard faces off today against American Mardy Fish on court number one.
This is hardly the first upset of Wimbledon 2011. On the ladies side, both Williams sisters were defeated in round 4 action, with Venus falling to Tsvetana Pironkova and Serena dropping her match to Marion Bartoli.
