Police and soldiers fired water cannons and plastic bullets Thursday as thousands of students protested against a law passed by Venezuela's congress that increases the government's powers over the country's universities.

At least three people were injured, including a news photographer who was treated for a cut to the head after being hit with an object.

The students had planned to march to the National Assembly but were turned back. Later, hundreds of students managed to continue the march through Caracas on another route, evading authorities who were firing plastic bullets and a water cannon, and shouting: "People, listen! This is a dictatorship!"

"If the government is going to expel our ambassador there, let them do it!," Chavez said in a televised speech Tuesday night. "If they're going to cut diplomatic relations, let them do it!"

"Now the U.S. government is threatening us that they're going to take reprisals. Well, let them do whatever they want, but that man will not come," Chavez said.

"The president is only interested in maintaining power, but he doesn't take his responsibilities seriously," said Julio Borges, a newly elected opposition lawmaker. Borges told reporters that the opposition will propose a law aimed at getting guns off the streets because the government has failed to address gun violence.

The law governing universities was approved by the National Assembly early Thursday, and students denounced it as an attempt by President Hugo Chavez to clamp down on autonomous state universities that have been a bastion of opposition to his government.

100 g de gruyère
150 g de chorizo
100 g de maroilles
Sel, poivre
Dans le bol basique, travaillez bien au fouet les oeufs, la farine
et la levure.
Incorporez petit à petit l’huile, le lait, le sel et le poivre.
Ajoutez le gruyère râpé. Mélangez
Coupez le chorizo en rondelles et les incorporez à la pâte.
Ajoutez le maroilles coupé en petits dés à la pâte.
Versez la préparation dans l’ultra plus, déposez par dessus
des dés de maroilles.
Mettre dans un four préchauffé 45 mn, th 6 ou 180°.
Pour que le cake soit plus moelleux, laissez reposer la préparation

The King's Speech rules over Hollywood as British film leads Golden Globe 2011 nominations with seven nods

• Colin Firth nominated for best actor in the movie while Helena Bonham Carter is up for best supporting actress
• The Fighter and Facebook movie The Social Network just behind The King's Speech with six nominations each
• Leonardo DiCaprio film Inception and Natalie Portman movie The Black Swan gets in with five bids

Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter portray George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in The King's Speech and yesterday the film ruled over Hollywood by topping the list of Golden Globe nominations.

Firth, 50, has already emerged as the awards season front- runner with his performance as a monarch coping with a crippling stammer.

He has so far won six major acting prizes from American critics groups and the best actor statuette from the British Independent Film Awards.

Firth's best dramatic actor rivals include James Franco for 127 Hours, Ryan Gosling for Blue Valentine, Jesse Eisenberg for The Social network and Mark Wahlberg for The Fighter.

The King's Speech took seven nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group behind the Globes.

Films The Social Network and The Fighter each took six nominations.

Tom Hooper the British-born, London-based , director of The King's Speech was woken in his hotel room in Melbourne with news his picture had garnered the most Globe nominations including best director for him.

He noted that the film's timeless themes of triumph over adversity and friendship were possibly the reasons it has become such a popular film.

The King's Speech has opened in a handful of cinemas in America but goes on much wider release there over the Christmas holidays. It opens in the UK on January 7.

The sci-fi thriller Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio, Black Swan with Natalie Portman as a psychotic ballerina and The Kids Are Alright with Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as a lesbian couple at the centre of a family drama all received four nominations.

The best actress category was one of the most competitive Golden Globe segments with Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams and Jennifer Lawrence vying for the best dramatic actress trophy.

The Globes split their awards along drama and comedy-musical lines. That allowed Angelina Jolie to snag a nomination in the best comedy or musical best actress section for her performance in The Tourist which has been viewed by many as not one of her finest on-screen roles.

Her leading man Johnny Depp found himself on the comedy-musical line-up where he was nominated twice for roles in The Tourist and and Alice in Wonderland.

Annette Bening and Julianne Moore were nominated for best actress in a musical or comedy for The Kids Are Alright and are seen as the strongest contenders.

They were joined by Anne Hathaway in Love and other Drugs, and fast-rising American actress Emma Stone.

The five best drama nominees - The King's Speech, The Social Network, about the creation of Facebook, The Fighter - in which Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale play brothers who box - and Inception - are all expected to win places on the Oscar nominations list next month.

However, not all of the movies in the Golden Globes comedy or musical category are going to make the Oscar cut.

The Kids Are Alright will endure, and deservedly so, but the remainder of the musical- comedy list represents slim pickings.

The incredibly camp musical Burlesque with Cher, The Tourist and Alice in Wonderland and the comedy-drama Red will not go on to garner Academy Award nominations.

Best supporting film actor was another strong section with Christian Bale nominated for The Fighter, Michael Douglas for Wall Street:Money Never Sleeps, Andrew Garfield, the new screen Spider-Man ,for The Social Network, Jeremy Renner for The Town and Rush for The King's Speech.

The King's Speech is set around the Abdication Crisis but it looks at the story by showing how George VI coped with his speech impediment by working with a speech therapist played Geoffrey Rush, who was nominated for best supporting actor today along with Bonham Carter whose portrait of the Queen Mother earned her a best supporting actress citation.

George VI ascended to the throne after his brother Edward VIII abdicated ,after less than a year, to marry twice-divorced Wallis Simpson.

Firth, who was travelling back from the Far East today said he was 'very pleased' that The King's Speech was finding recognition in America.

'I play a man who wasn't groomed for the throne ; he came from a family which can only be described as dysfunctional.

Science-fiction: Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page, received five nominations

'He had harsh schooling, he was very lonely ,his parents were distant and remote, he was beaten for being left-handed and he stammered.Then he became king', Firth said.

Helen Mirren won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her portaryal of George VI's daughter in The Queen.

The Golden Globes also cover television and there was a healthy line-up of British talent vying for awards in various categories.

In the best actress in a TV mini-series of made-for-TV-film Judi Dench was mentioned for Return To Cranford, Hayley Atwell for Pillars of the Earth and Romola Garai for Emma.

Ian McShane was listed in the best mini series actor list for Pillars of the Earth as was Idris Elba for the BBC police drama Luther.

Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald was nominated in the best supporting tv actress category for her role in the HBO series Boardwalk.

Toy Story 3 was nominated in the best animated film category along with The Illusionist, How To Train Your Dragon, Despicable Me and Tangled.

New York City Ballet dancer Jenifer Ringer appeared on the Today Show this morning to respond to a comment made about her weight in a recent NY Times review of her performance in The Nutcracker. The quip heard round the internet, dance critic Alastair Macaulay's comment that RInger looked like "she'd eaten one sugar plum too many" has been vilified, but has gone un-apologized for. Macaulay responded to the uproar with a follow up in the NY Times defending his decision to comment on the dancer's body under the justification that if you'd rather not be critiqued on your body, don't enter the world of dance.
Alastair Macaulay said in his NY Times review that “Jennifer Ringer, as the Sugar Plum Fairy, looked as if she’d eaten one sugar plum too many.”Jennifer says that her body is more “womanly” than an average ballet dancer. But, from the video, if you bumped into her on the street, you would never think anything of her weight; she looks thin.But, in the world of ballet, thin might not be enough. Even Natalie Portman recently lost 20 pounds for her role in the ballet movie Black Swan.

Kimbo Slice Dead

Kevin Ferguson (born February 8, 1974), better known as Kimbo Slice, is a Bahamian-American mixed martial artist. He became famous for street fights which were spread on the Internet, leading Rolling Stone to call him "The King of the Web Brawlers".Kimbo Slice's real name is Kevin Ferguson and is 33 years old. He is the cousin of US Olympic Judoka Rhadi Ferguson.Kimbo Slice is approximately 6'2 tall, and weighs 250 lbs although his weight varies between fights. Kimbo is always shown with a full beard and a clean-shaven head.
On October 4, 2008, a Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock fight was supposed to take place at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida as part of CBS' Saturday Night Fights. However, Shamrock received a cut to the left eye during a warm-up only hours before the fight was to take place. This left the head of fight operations, Jeremy Lappen, to choose a replacement for the fight. Options were Seth Petruzelli, Aaron Rosa and Frank Shamrock. But Kimbo's team stated they did not want him fighting Frank no matter how much money was offered to them. So Lappen decided that Petruzelli was the best option for the main event. Slice agreed to take the fight after receiving a raise in pay, and took in $500,000. Petruzelli defeated Slice by TKO 14 seconds into the first round of the bout.
August, Kimbo Slice sounded truly excited to be training for his jump to boxing. Now, the year is almost over, and it's sounding like the honeymoon stage is wearing off for former YouTube sensation. His promoter, Gary Shaw, talked to ESPN about postponing the boxing debut cause Kimbo can't seem to focus on getting ready for it:

In August 2010, it emerged that Kimbo Slice was intending to take up a career in professional boxing. He stated "I feel like a baby all over again. I'm thinking about this at night. I'm gonna be a problem in the heavyweight division. I'm going to be coming in with a bad demeanor. I want to see what it's like to break some ribs, break a jaw with one punch. This is a career move. I love fighting. I like to knock people the fuck out. I love engaging. School Closings Michigan Very bad weather conditions that could threaten the implementation of schools in Michigan on Monday. Reportedly, most schools in Michigan will be closed because the air temperature continues to decline at Sunday night but the wind speed continues to increase. Many people in Michigan would rather remain silent in the house instead of doing activities outside of the cold.
School closings in and around the state of Michigan continue to be of concern to parents and those preparing for the Monday workweek and grind. A very frigid and dangerous winter storm has impacted the entire state of Michigan, bringing wet rain, high winds, and blizzard conditions.

As of 6 p.m. most of the entire state's listing of schools in all counties (public and private) have cancelled classes through Monday as a result of heavy accumulations of snow, power outages, and dangerous road conditions. Based on the National Weather Service, between 1 and 3 more inches across the entire state will force more school closings in Michigan for the safety of the students and staff. Although the heaviest of precipitation has passed by, the state continues to suffer the aftermath of the build up of powder. On Monday, authorities expect to deal with flood conditions from melting snow.

Leland "Lee" Corso (born August 7, 1935) is a sports broadcaster and football analyst for ESPN. He has been featured on ESPN's College GameDay program since its inception and he appeared annually as a commentator in EA Sports' NCAA Football through NCAA Football 10. In the off season, Corso serves as Director of Business Development for Dixon Ticonderoga, a Florida based pencil manufacturing company. Corso played college football at Florida State University. He served as the head football coach at the University of Louisville (1969–1972), Indiana University (1973–1982), and Northern Illinois University (1984), compiling a career college football record of 73–85–6. Corso was also the head coach of the United States Football League's Orlando Renegades in 1985.
