UFC 108 Results: Sam Stout Defeats Joe Lauzon in a Three Round Battle

Joe Lauzon made his return from knee surgery against the heavy handed Sam Stout. On paper, Sam "Hands of Stone" Stout's biggest chance of winning was to keep the fight standing, as Lauzon seemed to have much superior grappling skills.

This stylistic difference was very evident throughout the fight. Lauzon got the better early on as he was able to take Stout down early, and land some hard shots and elbows which left Stout bloodied up. Lauzon tried to finish the fight by taking an arm, but Stout was able to defend it well and get up to his feet. Joe got a few more takedowns on the round and even pulled guard a few times, but Stout was able to get up again, and then got the better of the standup exchanges from the final minute on to the end of the round.

The second round started where they left off, Stout was looking more comfortable on the feet, and dished a few more punches before a he landed a glancing head kick which looked to hurt Lauzon. This made Joe shoot for another takedown, but Stout again quickly scrambled and got back up. Then came more of the same, Stout was the more active fighter standing up as he connected with even more elbows and punches which looked to hurt his opponent. Joe tried to pull guard a few times and work for submissions, but none of them really put Stout in that much danger.

Sam Stout looked to be the much fresher fighter on the third round as Lauzon looked like he was feeling the effects of all those shots he took on the first two rounds. Stout was winning the exchanges once again, but after multiple takedown attempts, Joe Lauzon finally got a double leg and threatened with a couple of sub attempts, but to no avail. Lauzon fought valiantly and made it a very entertaining fight, but 'Hands of Stone' seemed to be the much better fighter this night.

Joe's brother Dan lost by a crazy submission to Cole Miller earlier on the night, and Joe looked extra motivated take a victory for the Lauzon family. He tried hard to get a submission of his own, but in the end, he fell short, leaving the Lauzon brothers winless on UFC 108.

Sam Stout won with the scores of 30-26 and 30-27 twice.
